iPhone 16 Series PTA Tax Update for December 2024 in Pakistan
Are you thinking of bringing an Apple iPhone 16 model to Pakistan or sending it to be loved ones? Here’s the catch: without paying the PTA tax and registering your phone, it won’t work with local SIMs due to DIRBS restrictions.
You can use the phone for only two months without paying the tax, but after that, you’ll be stuck until it’s registered. This applies to all models in the iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max.
Ensure seamless connectivity by settling the PTA tax early!
If you’re registering your Apple iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, or 16 Pro Max for a PTA passport, you have 30 days to pay the tax; if you’re registering your CNIC, you have 60 days.
Do Travelers Need to Pay PTA Tax on iPhone 16?
The new feature that was recently added to the original DIRBS makes it possible for abroad Pakistanis or international travellers to temporarily register their phones for 120 days every time they visit Pakistan.
Galaxy S25 Slim Ready to Outperform iPhone 17 Air in Global Market
Samsung appears to be gearing up for the global launch of the Galaxy S25 Slim. With its sleek design and powerful specifications, this ultra-thin device is poised to make waves in the smartphone market. The recent appearance of this model in an IMEI database strongly hints at an imminent international release, making it a device to watch closely.
Two variants of the Galaxy S25 Slim are revealed by the IMEI listing, which was given by the leaker Erencan Yılmaz. The “B” indicates worldwide availability, and the “DS” verifies dual-SIM functionality; together, they form the model’s SM-S937B/DS tag. On the other hand, SM-S937U suggests a version developed specifically for the American market.
Rumour has it that the Slim S25 will be released in the second quarter of 2025, while the regular Galaxy S25 lineup is likely to appear in January of that year. Notably, it may coincide with the launch of fan editions and Google Pixel devices, which would increase the level of competitiveness.
It is said that the S25 Slim has an innovative camera system, which is what makes it unique. Moreover, it is expected to come with a primary sensor of 200 megapixels and ultrawide and telephoto lenses of 50 megapixels each. Reportedly the newest addition to Samsung’s ISOCELL series, these sensors have the potential to provide photos on par with flagship models.
Insiders in the industry say the Galaxy S25 Slim could compete with Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed this yet. This device might really be the underdog when it comes to smartphone dominance, due to its innovative features and worldwide appeal.

Microsoft closes the door on Windows 11 supporting older hardware
Microsoft has dashed any hopes of relaxing the hardware requirements for Windows 11, particularly around the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0. With support for Windows 10 ending in October 2025, the tech giant has reiterated that the TPM 2.0 requirement for Windows 11 is "non-negotiable."
In a blog post titled “TPM 2.0 – a necessity for a secure and future-proof Windows 11,” Microsoft made it clear it will not ease these strict hardware demands to encourage upgrades from Windows 10.
When the TPM 2.0 requirement was first revealed in 2021, it came as a surprise, but now nearly all modern PCs come equipped with TPM 2.0 support. This hardware-level feature plays a crucial role in securing Windows by handling encryption, validating digital signatures, and supporting various cryptographic tasks essential for system security.
Walmart bought Vizio
After announcing its intention to acquire Vizio in February, Walmart has officially completed the $2.3 billion purchase as of Tuesday. The retail giant expects the acquisition to strengthen its advertising business, particularly through Platform Plus—Vizio’s advertising and data division—which currently generates the entirety of Vizio's gross profit.
This influx of data is expected to significantly benefit Walmart’s expanding ad operations, which have already begun using shopper information to target ads on platforms like Disney Plus and Hulu. The acquisition could also provide Walmart with more opportunities to increase in-store advertising on Vizio TVs, a strategy it mentioned earlier this year, and potentially extend ad placements to Vizio TVs in customers’ homes.
However, privacy advocates have expressed concerns. Vizio has faced scrutiny over its data-tracking practices, including a 2017 case where it paid a $2.2 million fine to settle a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit accusing the company of tracking users without their consent.
What happened to Intel?
On Monday, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger unexpectedly announced his retirement after less than four years in the role. But the real story emerged quickly—according to reports from Reuters, Bloomberg, and The New York Times, Gelsinger didn’t step down voluntarily; the board forced him out.
Gelsinger had unveiled an ambitious plan to turn Intel around in four years, yet now finds himself ousted before he could see it through. His departure was so sudden that Intel hasn't named a successor, and he won’t even stay on as an adviser—he's completely gone.
Intel has been struggling for years. The company missed the smartphone revolution, has been plagued by persistent quality control issues, lost major customers like Apple, and now risks falling behind in the race for AI dominance. Gelsinger’s abrupt exit only adds to the turbulence as Intel faces mounting challenges in the tech industry.
A universal ‘Plug and Charge’ protocol for EV charging is coming in 2025
The fragmented and often frustrating state of our current EV charging system is frequently—and rightly—pointed out as one of the biggest obstacles to widespread electric vehicle adoption. Why invest in a plug-in car when every charging session involves signing up for yet another EV charging app, entering payment details, authorizing accounts, and hoping it all leads to a successful charge?
Imagine if, instead, you could simply plug in your vehicle, and everything worked seamlessly, without any hassle. That’s the vision behind a new partnership between nonprofit SAE International, a group of automakers, EV charging operators, and the Biden administration. They’ve just announced a framework for a "universal Plug and Charge" system, set to launch early next year.
“You'll be able to plug in anywhere, and everything will happen automatically. The system will handle everything through the cloud, charge your card, and let you walk away,” said Gabe Klein, executive director of the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.
This initiative aims to streamline the EV charging experience, removing a major barrier to adoption.
